About The Trip
What the hell are you doing?
We’re driving a school bus turned veggie oil-fueled makeshift RV across the continental United States over the summer. And I’ll be blogging about it.
Who are you?
I’m Ned Resnikoff. I’ll be a senior this fall at NYU and I went to high school with John Paganetti, the guy who put this whole thing together in the first place. I’m a staff writer for Campus Progress.
Why?
Everyone has their own reasons for coming along. John would tell you that he started working on this because it sounded like fun.
As for me, I’m a writer in search of some interesting things to write about. This trip is something you don’t see very often anymore: a genuine adventure. As far as I’m concerned, that’s worth writing about.
This is an opportunity for me to learn some more about the United States. I consider myself a patriot, but at the same time, I’m not entirely sure what that means; I’ve lived in the northeast my entire life, and I’ve barely seen the Midwest or the South. I want to figure out what it means to be an American, in all of its loopy, diverse glory. And since I’ve never been on a real adventure before, this is an opportunity for me to learn something about myself, too.
Who’s this “Juan” guy?
That’s John. “Juan Way” is a pun. Get it?
Who else is going with you?
When the trip starts, it’s going to be 10 or so dudes who went to high school with John. But people are going to be hopping on and off the bus for the duration of the trip, so it could be a very different group by the time the summer is over.
If you want more information about who is or was on the bus, check out the bios here.
Where are you guys going?
Everywhere! Well, sort of. The thing is, there’s no set itinerary, and the bus is pretty democratic, so we’ll be sort of making it up as we go along. But we’ve got plenty of time to explore the continental United States, so the odds of us being in your backyard at some point are good. Eventually we’ll have a tracking map that will let you follow the bus.
How can I get involved?
Access to showers or laundry machines and camping space are always welcome. Even if you just want to hang out and see the bus, let us know! You can fill out this form or email us. Advice about where to go next and what to see there is always appreciated—if you’ve got some tips, let us know!
